Empty Benches
Empty bench is a thing for me
For certain, it is empty
But it bears memories
I can see through
And I can feel it is vivid
Almost like ghosts
Memories of a child learning to climb and hold onto like a ladder
Of the hikers, leaning towards as the breath recovers
Of a couple enjoying sunset, as the seagulls fly over
Of old married wife and husband, talking about growing old and dying together
Next time you pass by an empty bench,
Remember
It was once someone's milestone
(and a place for homeless to slumber)
